Pocket Sized Digital Photo Display

January 30, 2009 on 2:57 pm by Clare | In Reviews | Comment on this post

Hi there everyone! So I bet you cant wait to see what great gadget it is I have for you today? Well say hello to the Digital Picture Keyring.

Now I’m quite a happy snappy person when I’m out and about…always taking the camera to gain keep sakes and funny poses to show off. Not to mention the repetitive cat photos that I shamefully like to inflict on everyone I meet.
The photo keyring is so easy to use and it keeps the pictures neat and away so I’m not rummaging through my purse or phone. It holds up to 60-100 so I don’t need to be selective and also I can turn it off and on so there is no need to recharge everyday either. To install, unlike most things, its a simple software installation and USB cable to add on your photos, which is great because i can keep updating with my latest photos.
Therefore I see this as an all round pleasing gadget that would be great on anyone’s keys!.

Brunch Time.

January 30, 2009 on 2:20 pm by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

A new series of concept products titled The Brunch from designer Ivo Vos could make breakfast a lot more exciting!

For example, catering for those of amongst us who would like a bit more predictability to your morning toast his toaster fires the toasted slices out not only cooked to a degree of your choosing, but also at an angle and velocity that is set by the user.

Alternatively for the more neurotic out there this placemat, cutlery and bowl set could be like the holy grail, allowing you to ensure perfect alignment of your crockery and eating utensils.

Also in the set are measuring devices to tell you how much sugar and milk you put into your tea/coffee, a teapot that tells you what height you pour your tea from, and this bread slicer to insure against any more uneven doorstops being cut from your fresh loaf.

Sony PSP To Provide Live Match Footage And Stats at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium

January 23, 2009 on 4:44 pm by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

It was reported earlier this week that after a period of testing, an English Premiership Football club(Arsenal) will be rolling out live match services utilising the wireless capabilities of the Sony PSP. After solving some rights issues, this is currently expected to be made available within the next 18 months or so.

These will basically consist of offering real-time statistics, real-time streaming of game footage, access to replays of goals or possibly contentious refereeing decisions, as well as Stadium information with even the possibility of some sort of social networking capability as well.
The question I can’t help but ask straight off is why provide a live stream, when you are already in the Stadium having paid to watch the match live? Replays are already provided on the huge HD Televisions they have installed at the stadium, but I suppose the chance to play them back repeatedly at half or full time seeing how well their players have done to con the ref could be entertaining. Finally although you can question the intelligence of football fans in general, I would like to think most of them can find their way to a toilet, or food stand on their own, and I have to say a hand held map might actually confuse them more than following signs.

The main benefit of this would be the social networking aspect which I’m certain has massive possibilities, as well as providing some better half time entertainment than what is usually put on.

Now I realise I’m being quite negative here, and it is mainly because I think this is a somewhat cynical marketing ploy. I don’t doubt that you will not be able to take in and use your own PSP to utilise these features as part of the ticket price, but would need to hire out a specially branded, and software installed Stadium owned PSP, no doubt including a lot of advertising for yet further increased revenue. The features that are stated in the article will hopefully be widened and vastly improved upon at the time of launch, or I can see the novelty wearing off quite quickly otherwise.

A similar trial was carried out in Disneyland at the beginning of last year when Nintendo and Disney trialled a scheme with the DS Lite providing portable interactive maps and park information.

Happy end of January everyone!

January 23, 2009 on 2:43 pm by Clare | In Reviews | Comment on this post

Seeing as we’re near the end of what seems to be THE longest month I thought I’d break the mould with a chirpy fun gadget this week! Its the pretty in pink….. Desktop Hetty Hoover.
She is the cutest little thing on my desk and really makes the gloom of the working day some what better! Like all women she is practical as well as pretty! We all remember the days of Henry and Hetty before the mighty Dyson took over the living room carpet, but here they are in their glorious miniature form.
She sits on my desk amongst all the other teddies and memorabilia…the difference is when my new year healthy rice crackers (yeah right!!) crumble making a mess, she is right there to do what she does best!! The suction is great and can suck up even the heaviest of biscuit crumbs (Er hum….rice crackers!!)
Operated by battery which means no USB cable flopping everywhere…
And of course behind every great Hetty is her beloved Henry. So for all those males out there who don’t think pink is their colour a Henry is awaiting your service!

The Biggest News Event Of The Day….

January 20, 2009 on 10:13 am by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

Obviously today’s big story, although not really Gadgets related, is the inauguration of President Barack Obama. A first for us, but something that has already occurred in some strange, almost parallel universe made entirely from small plastic building blocks. That’s right, Barack Obama has already been inaugurated, and it all went off without a hitch, in Legoland.

The bit I am particularly impressed with is that they weren’t lazy, using adapted minifigs, but instead built all the characters from actual Lego Bricks.

Surely The Greatest Fitness DVD?

January 15, 2009 on 11:48 am by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

I was reading Clare’s recent Blog post about our Aerobics Pole, and this as well as conversations at Gadgets Towers about New Years Resolutions, got me to thinking about the myriad of ‘Celebrity’ fitness DVDs available. A quick search later and I stumbled across what is surely the greatest fitness DVD ever.

If you want to copy the fitness routine of any person on the planet, surely you would go for the one who has achieved “greater than god” status. The man who is immortalised in a series of statements, all of which are true obviously, describing how he is greater than any person or being, alive, dead, yet to be, or mythical. Yes, if you haven’t already guessed I found the Chuck Norris Fitness DVD.

If somehow you are unfamiliar with the mythology surrounding Chuck Norris, why not look up some of his facts here.

An End To 26 Years Of Puzzled Perplexity

January 15, 2009 on 11:09 am by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

In the news this week was the Rubik’s Cube, but at the same time apparently so inept, that it has taken him 26 years to complete it!

First I must say kudos to the guy that he has not resorted to the various sites on the internet that tell you how to complete the cube from any given point, I know I would have by now! Still, I can’t help but feel that after 26 years of fairly hard-core fiddling, he may have merely stumbled across the solution. Still, I suppose I can’t really talk having never properly attempted to complete a cube myself.

If you feel like giving something like this a go, why not have a go at our Retro Puzzle Cube, or Sudoku Puzzle Cube both available for just £3.95!

Pole Aerobics Review

January 15, 2009 on 10:16 am by Clare | In Reviews | Comment on this post

Hi it’s me…. back for another exciting guide to the latest gadgets.
This week I have had the challenging pleasure of trying out the Pole Aerobics pole.
This is probably due to the fact that here at Gadgets towers the bitter conversation of gym membership and the constant adverts of which celebrity looks best in their airbrushed work out videos is clearly taking its toll!
The Aerobics Pole is the new and popular way of keeping fit whilst helping to lose a few of those pounds gained by too much turkey and chocolate over the festive period!
On first impressions, the packaging looks sporty and just like the professional gym type of equipment you’d buy anywhere. Which I was relieved about as I would have been slightly put off if it looked like something out of Moulin Rouge with leopard print tassels!
It’s easy to put together and very sturdy, which it definitely needs to be especially as I was about to swing on it. It comes with a DVD (no cheesy celebs I was pleased to see) that explains how to put it all together as well as a great workout routine. If like me you are not very good at following instructions you can always be left to your own devices to be as creative as you want swinging round your living room. You can also make it as easy or hard as you like, that’s why it’s a great fun substitute to the gym….
…as for the rest of the details on how I got on with the workout I will leave for you to wonder. After all, one unfit girl’s mountain is another girl’s walk in the park.
At least now I’m on my way to a fit and healthy 2009.
Verdict: Well recommended!

New Year, New Gadgets

January 9, 2009 on 11:36 am by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

A New Year means a whole new batch of Gadgets both in development and vying for our attention on shelves in their shiny new packages, offering us what was only talked about in hushed whispers last year. Or at least that’s the idea. As you may be aware the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is currently underway in Las Vegas with companies showing us what could be in our homes in both the not too distant, and slightly more distant future. Even with the current uncertain economic climate just as many stalls are present as last year with companies still showing off high end products such as the biggest and thinnest TV’s ever and the like. Of course they are also looking to maybe the not-quite so high end as well, conscious that consumers may not be willing to splurge quite so much on luxury items. From the early reports I have heard on the radio, and through some blogs a lot of emphasis is being put on how energy efficient the latest generation of Gadgets is, with green, and low cost to run being major selling points.

Scanning through various blog posts these are a few of my favourite items I’ve stumbled across:

First up is this Digital Scanner which offers an easy way to change all your books to audio format. Setting up the scan is a simple case of placing the book on the base, and the scanner does the rest. It’s special lamp even scans every word, even the ones in the crack of the books spine! The only downside is that as far as I can see there is no means of automating the page turning, but maybe I’m just lazy?

Next up is the Gadgets Towers, which I shall post about my adventures with in due course. The only real letdown is that those ridiculous looking “3D Specs” are still needed!

Finally, continuing my unhealthy obsession with all things Guitar Hero and Rock Band shaped is Guitar Hero for actual Guitar. A Rhythm Game based Guitar tutor “Disney Star Guitarist” aims to teach you how to play the guitar using an interface similar to that of the Guitar Hero games, as well as scoring you appropriately for correctly hit, or missed notes.
