Pancake Competition

February 25, 2009 on 4:25 pm by Clare | In What are we doing? | Comment on this post

Yesterday afternoon here in the office we got onto the conversation of pancakes (well it was pancake day, why not?)

Clare and helper!

After lots of deliberating on how to make batter and the perfect method a few of us decided to put it to the test, so formed the gadgets Pancake competition. Rules were simple:

  • Make the batter
  • Cook the pancake
  • Take a pic of the best one

So now its time for you, the public to step in and take a vote! Which do you think is the best pancake? would you eat it or toss it?

First up is Mandy. As from the photo shown, a nice neat rounded but flat tanned pancake. The Cheryl Cole of pancakes some might say! Perfect! Before you doubt….It has been confirmed that this is a ” from scratch ” pancake mixture made from home and not a pre made super market brand. I know what you’re thinking – “Hmm, how many did she do to eventually get this result?”

As for my entry I have to admit I had a little helper. (Not to pull on your heart strings mind you to swing the vote) Our pancake may not be pristine but we had fun and unlike some we actually tossed and flipped our pancakes. Ok some may have fallen on the floor and I’ve been picking mixture out of my hair since last night but I believe our pancake was best.

Last candidate is Dirk, he (like all of us) made the mixture from scratch! Admittedly he has stated that some lumps were formed whilst attempting to make the batter, also some sticking to the pan had commenced. Unfortunately for Dirk no photographic evidence was given to present to you. But never fear I have created what I would imagine to be an exact replica of his pancake….. he he…..

And so I leave it to you gadgets fans….

May the best woman win because lets face it, it’s not gonna be Dirk is it!?

Let’s Dance

February 25, 2009 on 10:29 am by Dirk | In What we are liking | Comment on this post

Although I missed this when it was shown on Saturday night my attention was brought to it on Monday morning. This has to be one of the funniest, and most surreal, Comic Relief ‘bits’ I’ve seen for a while.

It’s one of those occasions where the person doing has gone for it so whole-heartedly that although they look incredibly ridiculous it is actually quite cool. It’s how I like to imagine myself looking when I boogie away to 80’s classics on a night out, when actually I probably just look like someones dad at a wedding….

Lets Dance is on for the next three Saturdays as part of the BBC’s Comic Relief.

When Blue, Is Green.

February 18, 2009 on 3:07 pm by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

Keeping an eye on the Mobile World Congress show currently underway in Barcelona (mainly because I’m wanting release information on the Nokia N97, late May/early June apparently as reported by Phonedog.com) I have seen a new Green Phone that Samsung are due to release later this year in Europe.

The handset is made from recycled bottles, and is powered by a solar panel located located on the rear. It will come with an energy efficient “Eco-Mode”, and an “Eco-Walk” function which will utilise an inbuilt pedometer to calculate how much CO2 emissions have been saved by walking as opposed to driving. Of course the packaging will also be as minimal as possible, and what there is will also be made utilising recycled materials. The Blue Earth will have a touchscreen interface, as well as a special energy efficient Bluetooth capability. Further details can be found here.

Autobots! Roll Out!

February 18, 2009 on 2:17 pm by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

With “Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen” due in cinemas later this year I was very excited to stumble across some pictures of the new range of toys on the Total Film website.

Having grown up in the 80’s and remembering the original cartoon featuring the infamous Robots in Disguise, I must admit feeling an incredibly strong compulsion to go out and get at least one of these very very cool looking toys. I am hoping however that I will manage to subdue this urge and manage to bury it with my similar urge to buy the Lego Ultimate Collectors Millennium Falcon.

Here at gadgets.co.uk we still have some stock left of our immensely popular Transformers Flashing T-shirts, which are available in Autobot or Decepticon.

The movie trailer for Revenge of the Fallen can be found at the official site here.

Valentines Day! That One Day…..

February 12, 2009 on 4:05 pm by Clare | In Reviews | Comment on this post

Being a hopeless romantic I find it one of my favourite days of the year, one where you have romantic surprises and embarrassing (but yet so hinted) gestures of affection with flowers and balloons delivered to the office for all to see.
On the female note, lets face it, it’s easy for you boys! All you need to do is find the cheesiest pink heart printed item around. Us girls are predictable and easily pleased if the thoughts there. Now being in the 21st century romance works both ways…so what to get those of the masculine variety? Somehow I don’t think the fluffy teddy will get past the pile of unwanted Christmas jumpers from relatives.
Well here at gadgets.co.uk I’ve found we provide a range of unique pressies just for these kinds of occasions! Lucky me who gets to test them out eh!
This week I ordered the Personalised Football Club Dressing Room Photo. Its a great idea to surprise any man who likes his football (and lets face it what man doesn’t!). Ordering was simple, i just added my chosen name of Valentine along with his supported team ( obviously it goes with out saying to make sure you get all the right details or else havoc may commence) then just wait for it to arrive. It was delivered with in a short amount of days.
When it arrived I noticed how well presented it was, the picture was framed so no need for me to pay extra costs in presenting it on the day.
The picture is clear so when he shows it bragging to all his buddies his name is stated in all its glory for all of them to see and admire.
It comes in a variety of popular premiership teams, as well as being available in a club magazine cover version.
Have a great valentines everyone!♥

Something other than the ‘V’-Word….

February 11, 2009 on 4:11 pm by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

Whilst looking around various sites and blogs trying to find something other than the usual barrage of pink, fluffy, heart shaped gadgets that always appear around Valentines Day I came across Your Fonts. This website lets you create your own fonts using your own handwriting such as in the example below. Alternatively you can use symbols and shapes akin to the Windings fonts which are largely available to make up your own codes and ciphers.

You merely need to download and print out two pages which you then use to write out your own alphabet. These are scanned and uploaded and your new font is generated for you to download and install ready to be used in any program you need it for. And the best part? It’s free!

Of course I suppose this does have certain uses when personalising anything printed, such as… oh, I don’t know… romantic notes or poems?

When the Packaging Is The Product

February 10, 2009 on 10:14 am by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

With “Going Green” being a concern most of us are facing, we are all becoming more aware of how much packaging everything comes in. What better solution to the packaging problem than a product that is the packaging?

Well this is the idea behind the Finish Yourself Chair from designer David Graas. The chair is put together using all but a small amount of the cardboard packaging of the item. Designed for children and made from corrugated cardboard, once put together it is sturdy and comfortable enough for a small child to sit on, and let’s face it, it can’t be any more difficult to put together than a flat pack chair from Ikea!

Which conveniently brings me on to another design on his site, the Stefan Loves Stefan. A relatively simple DIY job on two Ikea Stefan Chairs to make a ‘Love Seat’, surely just the thing for more adventurous flat packers, particularly with Valentines day just around the corner. A video is available on the Designers site showing how to Do It Yourself.

If you think that might be a bit too hands on for your liking we have a great range of Valentines Gifts for that special someone in our special Valentines Section at Gadgets.co.uk

Caution! Zombies! Ahead!!!

February 5, 2009 on 3:10 pm by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

If you thought we had it bad earlier this week where some parts of the UK were experiencing their heaviest snow fall for 18 years, at least we didn’t have to contend with Nazi Zombies like the good folks of Austin, Texas in the USA.

Bemused drivers were alerted to the threat and advised to “Run for Colder Climates!” earlier this week when pranksters managed to hack into roadside maintenance signs and change the messages being displayed. The ABC Network reported that the signs were only change for a few hours, and that the culprits were still being tracked down. News Video below.
