Yay its Friday!!!!!!!

February 26, 2010 on 3:39 pm by Mandy | In News, What are we doing? | Comment on this post

It feels like it’s been a long week here at Gadgets tower, at some points I thought Friday would never appear. It’s entirely my own fault what with watching the Olympics and taking part in the pub quiz last night I’ve had quite a few late nights. However Friday is now here with the weekend in my sights, the only thing that’s getting in my way is the box of products that’s just arrived from the warehouse.

So lets see what in my box of goodies:

 Box of goodies

Rose Shaped Cake Tin (for my house mates mum), batteries (for the office camera, looks like I’ll be on imaging duty next week then!), Rewind Cable tidy, M-Cups Russian Doll Style Measuring Cups, BBQ Branding Iron, Floppy Disc Style Recordable CDR (all new products that can be found on our site) and finally the V22 Vertical Takeoff Plane (to be honest I’m not sure why I’ve got that but I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough.)

Well I’m off to sort through this little lot before I go home, have a great weekend and I’ll catch up with you next week.

Mother’s Day

February 25, 2010 on 4:57 pm by Mandy | In News | Comment on this post

With Valentines Day well and truly over we’re now on to the next event in the calendar, Mother’s Day!

If you didn’t already know this year it’s the 14th March, so it’s only just around the corner. Whilst Dirk’s been busy creating new pages for all the products I found at this year’s Spring Fair, I’ve been busy getting our Mother’s day category up and running amongst other things.  You can find it on our website or by clicking the graphic below.

Mothers Day Graphic2

A couple of my personal favourites this year are the Memories Mini Photo Frame and the First Class Mugs.

The Memories Mini Photo Frame comes in two designs ‘Love Heart’ or ‘Thinking of You’. Although small (1.8inch LCD display) it has an internal memory of 2GB, for non technical people like me that means it can hold up to 56 images. It’s very easy to set up and get your photos on the frame via the USB cable provided. I know it’s easy because I managed to do it without any assistance! Once on the digital frame you can set it to scroll through the photos or just leave it on one particular photo.

When loaded up with your mum’s favourite photos it makes the perfect gift for any desk whether at work or home.

The First Class Mugs are brand new, they are so new they’re not even in stock yet!  Don’t worry tho as the powers that be (our suppliers) have assured us we will have stock next week so they will be in plenty of time for Mothers day. These fantastic Royal Mail themed mugs are made from high quality porcelain and utilise the iconic image of a first class postage stamp to portray your sentiments perfectly (Dirks words.) In my words I think they are very unique and tell your mum just how great you think she is. The mugs also come in two other versions ‘Dad’ and ‘Sent with Love’.

That’s it from me today, don’t forget to take a look at the site for a gift that will make your Mother’s Day.

Well You Learn Something New Every Day!

February 24, 2010 on 5:19 pm by Dirk | In News, What are we doing? | Comment on this post

How rubbish has the weather been this week!? When it hasn’t been raining it’s been snowing, and when it can’t make up its mind it’s been doing some strange mixture of whatever it has left to throw at as! I realise it’s still Winter, but it really makes you pine for some good old sunshine doesn’t it!?

Now I have recently been carrying out the not insignificant task of importing my entire music collection onto my computer so that I can carry it around with me on my iPhone. Unfortunately I have discovered today that although I own all these CDs, and indeed bought them all new, and paid full price what I am doing is actually illegal under copyright law!!!

As reported by the BBC the consumer watchdog “Consumer Focus” have revealed that due to vastly out of date copyright law millions of people have been unknowingly breaking the law. This came to light when the group carried out a poll revealing that 73% of those asked were unaware that under current law it is illegal to copy media from a CD or DVD onto a computer or MP3 player for their own use. Thankfully no one is being prosecuted for this particular misdemeanour, and the point is merely being utilised to demonstrate how out of date this area of the law actually is, and thus the need to revamp it.

On the plus side here we are halfway through the week, and although the weather is rubbish it’s sure to get better soon, so in the meantime here is a picture of sunnier climes to try and cheer us all up a bit!

It’s All Go Go Go!!!

February 18, 2010 on 5:11 pm by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

WOW! What a busy week it’s been here at Gadgets Towers! What with all the great new products that Mandy has been out and about seeing at the various shows she has been off visiting my fingers have barely stopped dancing over my keyboard! (Ok, you got me, it’s more ‘advanced single finger typing than anything else, but I am pretty quick at it!)

I’ve also been getting very excited this week as they announced some more bands that are going to play at this year’s Download Festival. I can’t tell you how excited I am at the prospect of seeing Aerosmith!

Of course the winter Olympics have also started this week, and as I type this we have to win our first medal, but it is very early days, and the team still has high hopes of bringing home our best haul for a very long time! Today sees some action in one of my favourite events, the Bob Skeleton. I’m not sure why but although I don’t generally watch winter sports, I have always liked watching the Bob Sledding, and related events, maybe it’s the speed and excitement of them? This said, I’m not sure if I’d actually want to try something that has been likened to sliding down some ice on a tea try and wearing skin tight rubber at ridiculously fast speed and with no brakes!

56 Million Pictures Of The Queen!

February 15, 2010 on 5:13 pm by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

What would you do with 56 million pounds? It’s the sort of dilemma I think a lot of us would love to have, and it’s an actual reality for one lucky couple who scooped one half of the £112 million Euro Lottery jackpot on Friday. I did buy a ticket for this, but unfortunately was left with nothing after the draw was made. As I was reading this article on the BBC website, particularly the part about how Mr Page was shaking so much that he couldn’t make the phone call to check they had actually won, how would you actually react if you were told you’d won that sort of money?

It’s one thing winning a few hundred, or even a few thousand pounds, or presumably an amount that you can visualise, and see what you could do with it. But £56,000,000.00!? What does that look like? What would it be like knowing you never need work again, and you could do pretty much anything you wanted!? What are the sort of moral obligations you might feel knowing that you have far more money than you really need? Well unfortunately (?) I can only imagine at this point in time, but I think it is certainly the sort of dilemma I would like to find myself in!

To try and put this amount of money into perspective it would have put them in at equal 980th in the 2009 Times Rich List. This is above the likes of Noel and Liam Gallagher, Guy Ritchie, Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter, and Van Morrison to name just a few.

Here’s what the Gadgets team suggested that they would spend their money on last time there was a big UK winner of the Euro Lottery. Further to those suggestions, I can’t help but think that ‘Uncle Scrooge McDuck’ from Duck Tales might be onto to something with swimming in his cash! Although maybe only with notes rather than coins, as I can’t help but feel ones of the non cartoon variety might be a bit more painful!

Pro Or Anti?

February 11, 2010 on 5:19 pm by Dirk | In News | Comment on this post

Just a few days left until the most romantic day of the year! Are you one of those looking forward to Valentine’s Day with baited breath, barely able to contain your excitement at how many cards you’ll get from your army of admirers, or should that be stalkers? I mean some of these people must be pretty stalker-ish to be sending cards and/or flowers to someone they barely know, especially if you haven’t told them where you live/work right?

Or are you one of those single souls who cringes every time yet another bunch of flowers, box of chocolates, or teddy bear holding a heart is delivered to someone at the office, whilst you have that nagging feeling that when you return home your doormat will be worryingly bare? Possibly because of that restraining order you took out.

I myself shall not be expecting to receive anything this Valentines Day, but I’ve convinced myself that it’s Ok because it’s all just an elaborate ploy by greetings cards companies. Also, being a bloke I find it’s rare that girls actually bother doing anything for Valentine’s day, and want the day to be all about them getting stuff! Of course if you are with someone special, and get to enjoy the day together, then I guess it does some good. If you don’t have someone special at the moment, then looking on the bright side at least this year it’s on a Sunday!

So in short whether you are in the “Pro V-Day” camp:

Or the “Anti V-Day” camp:

Here’s hoping you have a good one!

Rugby Day!

February 10, 2010 on 10:05 am by Dirk | In News, What are we doing?, What we are liking | 1 Comment

Wednesday already! How the time flies here at Gadgets Towers! Mandy is off at the Spring Fair for the first half of this week, looking for loads of great new Gifts and Gadgets for us to bring you very very soon, so it’s a bit quieter than usual here. The weather appears to have taken a turn for the colder once again, so it would appear that my particular prediction was incorrect. Well, prediction was a bit of a strong word, it was more of a guess really.

Of course I spent the weekend cheering on England in the 6 Nations which started last weekend. Thankfully my support seemed to do the trick as despite not playing at anywhere near our best, and some sticky moments, England ran out winners, and in truth I was so confident of the win I didn’t get anywhere near as vocal as I usually do at these sorts of events. I was going to add in a video of the match highlights here, but I can’t find a good one, so instead I will pop in a slightly more classic moment, enjoy!

It’s all downhill to the weekend now, so here’s wishing everyone a wicked Wednesday!

It’s, Groundhog Day! (Well, It Was Yesterday….)

February 3, 2010 on 4:46 pm by Dirk | In News, What are we doing? | Comment on this post

As you may or not be aware, and I know I wasn’t until I saw posts about it on a few news sites this morning, yesterday was Groundhog Day. Yes, the festivities around which the 1993 Bill Murray film of the same name are based is an actual annual occurrence. Of course it has grown somewhat in prominence since the release of the film, but once a year people from all over flock to the town of Punxsutawney Pennsylvania to see, to give him his full name, “Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Sage of Sages, Prognosticator of Prognosticators, and Weather Prophet Extraordinary” predict when Winter will end.

The Groundhog Day tradition was taken over to America by German settlers, and there are similar beliefs held by most European countries, the equivalent is found, for example, in an old English saying:

If Candlemas be fair and bright,
Winter has another flight.
If Candlemas brings clouds and rain,
Winter will not come again.

Unfortunately I didn’t pay an awful lot of attention to what the weather was like, and if there was any sunshine or shadows about yesterday, so I’m predicting that I would not have seen a shadow and we can expect Winter to be at an end very soon here at Gadgets Towers. Of course this may just be wishful thinking, and who knows how accurate this old saying is anyway? Whatever happens here, Phil certainly saw a shadow yesterday, as you can see in the video below, which means six more weeks of winter for the poor people of Punxsutawney!
