Long Weekend Here We Come!

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Hi everyone

Welcome to what is usually a “Fun Friday” but today gets to be “Fun Thursday!” OK, it doesn’t have the same ring to it but lets be serious, who cares as long as its the last day of the working week.

So not to disappoint my fans I have moved my Friday Blog to Thursday. I couldn’t have you missing out on the Gadgets Towers weekly gossip column.

At the start of the week you would have expected everyone to be sprightly from having the weekend off. This was not the case, everyone seemed to be accompanied by a early spring cold. Every ones sneezes and sniffles echoed thought the office however, not Dirk! He is clearly cut from the same cloth as a bull and has escaped untouched from this stuffy disease….wonder if the typical “Man Flu” will apply to his strength, hmmm?

Tuesday as you know was our Chocolate Easter Egg competition. We announced the winner, belly’s were filled, chocolate smiles were shown and messy fingers licked clean! The fact my chair now seem lower than before surely is a manufacturing error? Ek!

Wednesday was pretty quiet. My night was filled with watching Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares. I have to say this show is great to watch. Gordon is sent in to save the sinking businesses with all the grace of a herd of stampeding Elephants. Telling the owner he’s a fat f@*&… is he not meant to be saving the poor man from melt down rather than sending him to an early grave due to stress!

And so this leads us to today. The Easter Bunny has done his rounds and so more Eggs have been dropped off which we are obliged to eat…this soon reminded me of that broken chair which is still randomly decreasing in height. Today has also been Spring cleaning day at the office. We are all now working in a spic and span environment ready for the sunshine to show up all the corners that were filled with gadgets and boxes.

As for my weekend I’m just not sure, any suggestions from anyone is always welcome. Anything but eating eggs as I may turn in to one!

Have a great Easter weekend….See you Tuesday!

Gadgets Easter Chocolate Taste Test

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Hi everyone!

Welcome to what must be everyone’s favourite week of the year. Easter Bank holiday…yes its a short week followed but a nice long weekend, no Monday morning blues or first day of the week rush hour stress.

Here at Gadgets Towers the week just get better as today is the day we got to choose the winner of the “Gadgets Top Easter Egg Award” which is basically (what I’m going to call) Chocolate Day!

As its Easter we decided to see which egg out there is Gadgets favourite. As everyone has their favourite chocolate the test was anonymous so no one would be able to see the brand! This way no biased scores could be made. The test was simple, eat the chocolate and mark the unknown chocolate out of ten!

So here we go:

In last place was Kinnerton. With its “High School Musical” and “Simpsons” packaging it may be a choice for the kiddies but not for us serious chocolate addicts!

Join 4th place goes to the Nestle egg. Mandy tried to confuse us by putting the same egg on the plate twice. However we found them slightly bland with a tangy after taste and even though we didn’t know it was the same egg everyone still marked them the same low rating. We would like to issue this particular egg a special merit for being the most economical. Its packaging was recycled, half the normal size with no plastic insert.

3rd place went to Mars. I myself would have thought Galaxy (same company as Mars) would have been my favourite but this chocolate although creamy at first taste soon after a few “reassuring tasters” left a bitter tang. However that won’t be stopping me eating all the Revels and Maltesers left in the packet he he!

Close 2nd was my favourite Cadburys! Its traditional chocolate taste was known by everyone, after four chunks I could still manage to eat more.

And so the winner of the Gadgets Top Easter Egg Award goes to….. the Lindt Chocolate Bunny! Although not technically an egg it was easy to tell the difference between the quality of melt in your mouth chocolatier made chocolate next to the manufactured high street brand. The treat was also simply wrapped in gold foil, so no unwanted boxes or plastic left to dispose of.

I also liked the fact it came with a little red collar and bell around the neck reminding me of my bunny as a kid…. Snowy (yes I am aware of the original name choice but I was 6 years old in my defence.) This weirdly enough made me feel terribly guilty when smashing her little ears off to scoff…but needs must in the name of science and testing here at gadgets.co.uk, and sacrifices must be made!

As for the week ahead, as I’m left here feeling very sick from copious amounts of chocolate, I hope I never see another chocolate egg again… well until Sunday that is!

Enjoy the rest of your short week everyone…

Easter, a time for chocolate. And gadgets….?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

The Easter weekend is here. The two giveaways being the vast amounts of chocolate adorning every available shelf in just about every shop, and of course the excitement of most of the population at having a four day weekend.

Traditionally of course Easter is a religious festival celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. The Easter egg, as far as I am aware, became associated with the festival due to it’s linked symbolism with rebirth, then of course the Americans further commercialised this and added the Easter Bunny et al.

I have been scouring the Internet trying to locate some proper Easter themed gadgets, rather than just somewhat tenuous links with items remotely egg, or rabbit themed. First of all I was somewhat surprised by some of the religiously linked items , possibly the most worrying being theMiracle Jesus action figure. Unfortunately a lot of the religious items are not really suitable for those of us who aren’t regular church goers, and aside from these I was only able to find tenuously linked Rabbit and egg gadgets, such as the Easter Bunny Car Conversion kit, apparently a follow up to the bizarrely successful Reindeer Car Conversion Kit.  Thankfully this appears to only be available in America, and we can only hope this sort of thing doesn’t make the trip across the pond!

Not quite in keeping with the chocolate egg giving benevolence of the Easter Bunny, but appealing to me greatly due to my love of Monty Python are these Killer Rabbit Slippers. Sure to keep your feet warm, (especially welcome with the cold snap predicted for this weekend) and in my experience, likely to last about two days before the cat has ripped them into tiny fluffy white pieces.

So currently, unless you wants some egg shaped speakers, an Easter Bunny themed MP3 player, Plants that grow from eggs, or something similar you may be better off sticking with the chocolate eggs for this year at least.
