10k Run = Success. Nokia Ovi Store = Fail (At least So Far)

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Well, I had two Blog posts planned for this week.

First up I was going to regale you with tales of my fantastic feat of stamina on Monday when I ran the Bupa London 10,000 on Monday. As part of this I was hoping to find at least one photo of myself during the run taken by the official photographers, but alas despite being assured each time I click on the link that “Official race photos will be available on Thursday 28th May. Please check back then.” they are still to be made available, so the best I can currently do is provide you with a picture of my well deserved medal, below, and promise that if any photos do materialise I shall post them.

My official time was 55 minutes and 7 seconds, although this is nearly a good half an hour longer than the winner (who finished in an English race record of just over 27 minutes) it is still around 10 minutes faster than my last 10k race back in August of last year, so there is certainly improvement to be seen and I am pleased with that. The route was very nice, and took in plenty of sights as we ran, although everyone that I’ve spoken to would have been more than happy had we not had to traverse the cobbled streets of Leadenhall at approximately the 5.5k mark!

The other item I was going to post about this week was regarding the launch of the new Nokia Ovi Store, Nokia’s effort to match the Apple Appstore. Unfortunately whether it be due to lack of servers to cope with demand, or my network not wanting me to have access (I’d go with the former judging by various blogs I’ve visited) I have only been able to access the Ovi store online, which kind of defeats the point really doesn’t it?

I shall continue my attempts to use the Ovi store, and let you know what I think if/when I can finally access it. My first impressions, somewhat tainted by my inability to access it through my phone, are understandably not too good…

When Blue, Is Green.

Keeping an eye on the Mobile World Congress show currently underway in Barcelona (mainly because I’m wanting release information on the Nokia N97, late May/early June apparently as reported by Phonedog.com) I have seen a new Green Phone that Samsung are due to release later this year in Europe.

The handset is made from recycled bottles, and is powered by a solar panel located located on the rear. It will come with an energy efficient “Eco-Mode”, and an “Eco-Walk” function which will utilise an inbuilt pedometer to calculate how much CO2 emissions have been saved by walking as opposed to driving. Of course the packaging will also be as minimal as possible, and what there is will also be made utilising recycled materials. The Blue Earth will have a touchscreen interface, as well as a special energy efficient Bluetooth capability. Further details can be found here.
