Something other than the ‘V’-Word….

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Whilst looking around various sites and blogs trying to find something other than the usual barrage of pink, fluffy, heart shaped gadgets that always appear around Valentines Day I came across Your Fonts. This website lets you create your own fonts using your own handwriting such as in the example below. Alternatively you can use symbols and shapes akin to the Windings fonts which are largely available to make up your own codes and ciphers.

You merely need to download and print out two pages which you then use to write out your own alphabet. These are scanned and uploaded and your new font is generated for you to download and install ready to be used in any program you need it for. And the best part? It’s free!

Of course I suppose this does have certain uses when personalising anything printed, such as… oh, I don’t know… romantic notes or poems?

Happy end of January everyone!

Seeing as we’re near the end of what seems to be THE longest month I thought I’d break the mould with a chirpy fun gadget this week! Its the pretty in pink….. Desktop Hetty Hoover.
She is the cutest little thing on my desk and really makes the gloom of the working day some what better! Like all women she is practical as well as pretty! We all remember the days of Henry and Hetty before the mighty Dyson took over the living room carpet, but here they are in their glorious miniature form.
She sits on my desk amongst all the other teddies and memorabilia…the difference is when my new year healthy rice crackers (yeah right!!) crumble making a mess, she is right there to do what she does best!! The suction is great and can suck up even the heaviest of biscuit crumbs (Er hum….rice crackers!!)
Operated by battery which means no USB cable flopping everywhere…
And of course behind every great Hetty is her beloved Henry. So for all those males out there who don’t think pink is their colour a Henry is awaiting your service!

Blondes Have More Fun

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Wandering around the internet looking for gift ideas for female friends and family members I stumbled across the simply ingenious ‘Keyboard For Blondes’. This follows the trend of taking a normal everyday item, and making it pink so it appeals to the section of the female (and indeed male) population, who have to own something ‘because’ it is pink. Having said that, this particular item at least does have some added novelty value in that a lot of the keys have had ‘Blonde friendly’ pictures or descriptions added to them. Replacing various buttons such as the ‘F’ keys with the ‘Useless Key’, the ‘Return’ key has become the ‘YES! I want it!’ key, and Caps Lock is known as ‘WARNING! Size XXL Letters!’

To defend myself none of the people I envisage possibly buying this for would need the new key descriptions, as they are all perfectly adept at using a normal keyboard, even knowing what most of the Useless Key’s do. However they do fall into the category of wanting anything that is pink. As an alternative to this more novel version there is of course the Pink Usb Flexible Portable Rubber Keyboard that we stock at Gadgets.co.uk which I think would be a better option for those on the go, or maybe with not quite the right sense of humour for the Keyboard for Blondes.

Poseable, Personable, Cute, What More Could You Want?

One of our newer gadgets is the incredibly popular Bubblehead Webcam , and having got up close and personal with one of the little guys this week it’s not hard to see why.
A combination of cute and practicality combine to give this quirky little desktop tool a unique appeal. Needless to say the pink colour is instantly attractive to those girls who have to have anything in pink, while the green is nice enough. What I am most impressed about with this little webcam is the quality, just look at a still taken from the camera below:

The £24.95 price tag makes it comparable with similar quality (but far more boring) Webcams available, and once I have to give him back I know I’m going to miss having the little guy on my desk to talk to!
