Rubberduckzilla!

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

There I was sat in front of my telly the other night, passing the time watching some tripe or other when the new Oasis advert (below) appeared in front of me grabbing my attention. This is without a doubt my favourite advert on TV at the moment!

You may remember the last series of adverts Oasis used featuring ‘Cactus Kid‘ which was eventually banned by the ASA who cited that the adverts condoned teenage sex, and suggested the drink was a substitute for water. Now personally I didn’t see the problems with these adverts, although I didn’t particularly like them though I think this was largely down to finding the Cactus Kid a bit creepy myself. The Rubberduckzilla advert however I find much funnier and more entertaining, particularly as it sends up a Godzilla (or similar) movie so well.

It is apparently the first advert to be shown on British television that is entirely in Japanese, and features a giant rubber duck destroying Tokyo with massive ‘Sonic Squeaks’. I really hope that this is just the first instalment in a series of adverts featuring the giant water hating duck! There is even a Rubberduckzilla website here, where you can play games featuring the yellow anti-hero. The two games available at the moment do require the use of a webcam and printer.

New Year, New Gadgets

Friday, January 9th, 2009

A New Year means a whole new batch of Gadgets both in development and vying for our attention on shelves in their shiny new packages, offering us what was only talked about in hushed whispers last year. Or at least that’s the idea. As you may be aware the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is currently underway in Las Vegas with companies showing us what could be in our homes in both the not too distant, and slightly more distant future. Even with the current uncertain economic climate just as many stalls are present as last year with companies still showing off high end products such as the biggest and thinnest TV’s ever and the like. Of course they are also looking to maybe the not-quite so high end as well, conscious that consumers may not be willing to splurge quite so much on luxury items. From the early reports I have heard on the radio, and through some blogs a lot of emphasis is being put on how energy efficient the latest generation of Gadgets is, with green, and low cost to run being major selling points.

Scanning through various blog posts these are a few of my favourite items I’ve stumbled across:

First up is this Digital Scanner which offers an easy way to change all your books to audio format. Setting up the scan is a simple case of placing the book on the base, and the scanner does the rest. It’s special lamp even scans every word, even the ones in the crack of the books spine! The only downside is that as far as I can see there is no means of automating the page turning, but maybe I’m just lazy?

Next up is the Gadgets Towers, which I shall post about my adventures with in due course. The only real letdown is that those ridiculous looking “3D Specs” are still needed!

Finally, continuing my unhealthy obsession with all things Guitar Hero and Rock Band shaped is Guitar Hero for actual Guitar. A Rhythm Game based Guitar tutor “Disney Star Guitarist” aims to teach you how to play the guitar using an interface similar to that of the Guitar Hero games, as well as scoring you appropriately for correctly hit, or missed notes.

Relive your 80′s TV fantasies!

“Michael Knight, a lone crusader in a dangerous world. The world… of the Knight Rider.”

Keeping my Scanners peeled as per usual whilst cruising around the various blogs my nostalgia suddenly took a Turbo Boost off the scale when I discovered this Knight Rider themed GPS unit. This was released in August 2008 in America, presumably to coincide with the release of the new Television series of Knight Rider.

The unit features the voice of William Daniels who voiced KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) for the original TV series. Not only that but with an element of personalisation the unit contains a database of 300 names so that ‘KITT’ can talk to you directly! Situated either side of the display are two red LED ‘Visual Amplitude Indicator Readouts’ (they move in relation to the volume of KITT’s voice) in place of the originally centrally positioned LED readout of KITT’S anamorphic equaliser.

Have to be careful you don’t end up trying to drive through trailers, or turbo-boost over the traffic jams, but all I know is, I WANT ONE!

Office, Desk, and USB Gadgets galore

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Gadgets.co.uk are proud to present the latest in our range of USB and computer accessories.

First up is the B-Flex USB Laptop Speaker. Small, portable, giving an impressive volume and sound quality, along with no trailing wires to get tangled, and powering straight from your USB port this is perfect for audio on the go. No complicated set-up or installation required, just plug it in.

Next is the insanely cute Bubblehead Webcam. Personable, and posable the little fella is the most fun of all the webcams we’ve seen for a long time. Also pretty in pink to appeal to all the girlies out there, we’re pretty sure that if you give one of these a home you’ll find yourself chatting away to it in no time!

Finally, if it’s possible, allow me turn up up the cuteness another notch as I introduce these cuddly Animal Screen Wipes. Whether you have a standard monitor, a fancy flat panel LCD Monitor, or want something to keep that monster Television you just invested in bright, sparkling, and dust free these little guys will polish a treat with their chamois tummies, even leaving behind a zesty lemon fragrance as they go.

Of course these and lots of other great gift ideas are available in our special Office Desk and USB section.
