Otamatone Melody is the smaller and decidedly more tuneful version of the original Otamatone. For anyone who hasn't come across an Otamatone before, they're essentially a slightly odd and strangely appealing electronic musical instrument from Japan. They're cleverly shaped to resemble a musical note and even have a cute little face at the base of the note.

Unlike the original model, this Mini Otamatone comes with built in melodies so that even the tone-deaf and musically inept among us can get a decent tune out of it. Simply press the button on the Otamatone's stalk to the rhythm of your chosen tune and the musical Otamatone will sing the right notes for you. To put your own spin on the rendition, you can really make the Otamatone sing by squeezing it's cheeks to open it's mouth. A closed mouth produces a 'Mmm' sound and opening the mouth creates a 'Whaa' just like real singing.

It's incredibly easy to pick up and play and you can use the demo song mode to familiarise yourself with a tune if you don't know it very well. The key-chain attachment and it's pocket size means you can take your Otamatone Melody with you everywhere. Although be warned that playing it everywhere might make you a little bit unpopular with commuters, teachers and librarians.
